FESCO will deliver equipment for construction of the Nuclear Power Plant under the Russian project to Bangladesh
FESCO Transportation Group has signed a contract with Atomstroyexport JSC (part of Rosatom State Corporation) for delivery of equipment for the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Bangladesh in 2018-2019. According to the terms of the contract, FESCO will provide a full range of freight forwarding services for transportation of general and oversized cargo weighing more than 6.7 thousand tons from Russia to the NPP.
To implement the project, FESCO's specialists have developed individual transportation schemes. General cargo will be loaded into containers and flat racks in the port of St. Petersburg, delivered to the port of Chittagong of Bangladesh by linear vessels, and to the NPP construction site by road. Oversized cargo will be accumulated in the port of St. Petersburg and transported by sea to the port of Mongla, where the equipment will be loaded on barges and delivered by the Padma to the berth located in the immediate vicinity to the NPP. Further, depending on cargo characteristics, it can be unloaded using a crane or RO-RO method, and then transported to the construction site by trawls and modular trailers.
The Rooppur NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW is being built under a Russian project in 160 kilometers from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The launch of the first and the second power units is scheduled for 2023 and 2024 respectively. Design and construction works at the NPP construction site are performed by Atomstroyexport JSC.
